facts about my mother:
In putting together a mix cd for my cousin this morning, I came across my copy of Bonjour, a cd that my friend Brian and I recorded in the summer of 2005, largely in the bizarre 1950s house that I was staying in for free at the time. We recorded and performed as Baez! for the better part of four years, but this was the only full album we made.
I listened to some of it this morning and I do still find it charming! SOOO I put it on Muxtape.
”Ode to Max Fischer” was re-recorded the next year with just me, under the name The Fashion-First Fifties, feat. Larry on guitar and Jesse Greenlee on drums, but I uploaded the original version here.
Friday night, Larry played a free show at the Illini Union, and after his set, I went outside with Angelina so she could smoke. It was raining and cold, so the few of us outside were all huddled under the overhang for shelter. A man walked up and started chatting with some girls standing near us. He glanced our way a few times and he and I exchanged smiles — I couldn’t shake the feeling that I knew him from somewhere.
He was wearing a distinctive jacket and a paperboy cap, and seemed like he was waiting for a ride, so I finally decided that he was a cab driver and that I’d just seen him around town.
